Fonterutoli is located 5 km south of Castellina in Chianti (Siena), on the hills facing the Val d’Elsa, in the heart of the Chianti Classico. Owned by the renowned Mazzei family since 1435, Castello Fonterutoli comprises of 117 hectares of vineyards mainly consisting of Sangiovese with some Merlot, Colorino, Malvasia Nera and Cabernet Sauvignon vines also planted. Castello Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 2020 is comprised of a blend of 90% Sangiovese, 5% Malvasia Nera and 5% Colorino, hand-harvested from 7 different parcels of 15-35 years of age. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with 12 months maturation in French oak barrels (225 and 500 ltr / 40% new). The resulting wine is elegant and well-proportioned with dark berry fruits, spices and leather. Intense, smooth and long on the finish, this is a brilliant "benchmark" Chainti Classico from a historic estate.
